Nuevo libro de arqueología, etnohistoria y etnografía circumcaribeña sale a la luz

Una nueva antología de arqueología, de etnohistoria y de etnografía circumcaribeña ha sido publicada recientemente (2011) por la editorial Sidestone (Leiden). Se titula Communities in contact: essays in archaeology, ethnohistory and ethnography of the Amerindian circum-Caribbean.

Este volumen recoge las discusiones actuales sobre variados temas históricos de nuestra región, debatidas en el mes de marzo de 2010 en la Universidad de Leiden, Holanda. Entre dichos trabajos se encuentran al menos tres que abordan temas de la arqueología en Puerto Rico con perspectivas nuevas que trascienden la rígida historia oficial que se nos ha impuesto.

Luego de revisar este volumen, me parece que el mismo es sumamente relevante, pues pudiera ser un parteaguas para la arqueología de toda la región caribeña; se esgrimen aquí los elementos centrales de un nuevo "paradigma" en nuestra arqueología antillana. ¡Enhorabuena! ... que ya muchos estamos cansados de que la historia oficial nos siga recetando los mismos cuentos de siempre sobre nuestro pasado "simple", "distante" y de "sub-desarrollo". Todo fue mucho más dinámico y complejo de lo que siempre se nos enseñó.
